Announcement: A Few Changes

Some of you may have noticed that I've been a little slower on this season than I usually am with First Impressions and choosing shows to blog. The reason for this is that my life has been kicked into overdrive in the past few weeks. I'm a grad school student and this quarter is more challenging than the last, and I'm going into training for a new job this week. All of this has had a big demand on my time, and since I considered blogging a hobby from the beginning, it's fallen to the side.

However, this doesn't mean that I'm shutting down this blog. Instead, I'm going to use this season as an experiment to see if I can handle editorial blogging. Over the summer season, there were some topics that I wanted to talk about but I couldn't get the posts together because my blogging time was taken up by episodics. I don't dislike episodic blogging, but I think editorials will fit my current schedule better. Hopefully, that hunch is right.

This new schedule won't affect my figure reviews, since they've always been on a monthly basis and stopping those would affect OASG's schedule too. (Plus, I like writing them.) This is just a test to see if I can stretch this blog to fit my changing life. So please pardon my slowness, and I hope that you'll continue to stick with Subdued Fangirling!

Thoughts on the Aniblog Tourney

My match was over a week ago, and while I was planning to get this post up a bit after the poll closed, school and real life got in the way. But I still want to share my thoughts on the experience, now that it's over.

Chihayafuru is Getting a Second Season!

I don't usually post about news, but there's an exception for everything, and I'm happy to make one for a show like this. It's been confirmed that Chihayafuru is getting a second season. If you've been following me for any period of time, you may know that I love this show, and I'm beyond excited to hear this news. It's great in general to hear that a show that wasn't necessarily a commercial success (as far as I know, the DVD sales weren't that great, but apparently the manga sales skyrocketed) is coming back mainly because it was a damn good show. The anime world needs more stories like this one. I eagerly await the announcement of the premiere date.

We're Experiencing Some Technical Difficulties

On Sunday, the graphics processor on my four-year-old Macbook Pro died. I haven't lost anything, since I frequently back up the hard drive, but I'll be without a computer for a few days while it gets fixed. Until then, I won't be on the internet as much as I usually am. The usual episodic posts should be up at the end of the week if all goes as planned. Hopefully I'll se you all then, and remember to always back up your computers!

Subdued Fangirling Has Made it to Round Two!

I meant to get a post up about this after the first round, but like many people, school has been taking over my free time. I'm barely able to keep up with my episodic posts (even though that's only twice a week) and I still need to finish some review posts from last season... But enough about the stuff I have to do! I'm really happy that I managed to make it through the first round. I've found a ton of new blogs to read and have gotten some great feedback! Thanks to everyone who took the time to share their thoughts about this blog.

I don't know how much farther I'll make it in the Tourney; I mean, my opponent Rednights has been at this a lot longer than I have, and I've already had a great experience thankfully devoid of drama so I can't say that I would mind if my bid ended here. However, if any of you looking at this blog for the second time need a reason to vote for me... Subduded Fangirling's first anniversary is tomorrow! And it would be all the sweeter if I had a win at the end of the day...

Failed attempts at getting more votes aside, I wish Rednights the best of luck, and you can vote for your favorite here.

Subdued Fangirling in the Aniblog Tourney!

Let the fighting begin...
Some of you probably already know this, either through Twitter or because you clicked that link above the poll, but I'd like to make an official announcement regardless: Subdued Fangirling is in the Aniblog Tourney!

This is the first big event that the blog has participated in, so I'm a little nervous. Last time the Tourney happened, I still wasn't sure if I wanted to start a anime blog. Things change fast, huh? Anyway, if you're completely new here and are just skimming through to decide who to vote for, feel free to use the tabs right under the banner for the About page and the Archive. The Archive is mostly organized by season and anime series, so you can see what I've covered in my 11 months of blogging. There's also the tag cloud to the right if you prefer.

If you have any constructive criticism for me regarding the layout, post style, writing or anything else on this blog, feel free to leave a comment on this post. Subdued Fangirling is coming up on it's first anniversary, and I'd like to know how I'm doing so far!

I'm Way Over Imageshack's New Limit

So on Wednesday, I woke up to this. Pretty much all of my blog images are hosted on Imageshack, and while I figured that eventually I'd hit a limit, I didn't think that a policy change would come out of nowhere. I'm fine with Imageshack changing their business practice, but I wish that they could have let me know earlier and not with a red block on top of my account page. The images in my more recent posts should be safe after this takes effect, but the majority will be gone. I'm currently moving everything over to Picasa but I don't know if I'll be done before the deadline, so don't be surprised if a bunch of broken image links pop up after March 1st. Hopefully they will be temporary. In light of this, I'm also going to start phasing out the "Additional Screencaps" part of my posts or at least make it a lot smaller than it has been. It's something that I've been considering over the last couple weeks since it takes a lot of time but doesn't add much to the posts, I think. Due to the sheer amount of time that it's going to take to re-link all the images on this blog, I'll probably remove that segment entirely from older posts. If you're a reader who really liked the extra screencaps, I recommend Anivision, which has a bunch of great galleries. Aside from all this though, expect business as usual.
