I would say that Jean has the wrong idea, but maybe that kind of mindset is what someone needs to become a politician…
As much as I enjoyed this week’s episode, once again I’m running out of things to say so I’ll keep this post short and sweet. This week’s episode went back to poking fun at scenes from the anime while using one of the manga chapters as a base. I’m a little sad that the production decided to cut Jean’s attempts at blackmailing all the other candidates, but I’m happy that there was some more screen time for Ilse.
She showed up earlier in the show, but since this episode has more of a focus on her I get to talk about her more this time around! Ilse is yet another character who anime-only viewers may not be familiar with—or at least, the non-pirating anime viewers. I see you out there!
In any case, she is the focus of a “bonus” chapter in the manga that recieved an OVA adaptation. That anime episode will be released in the USA pretty soon as part of the special edition for Volume 17, and I highly recommend checking it out! It’s not your typical side story—it’s the first point in the manga to hint at a very big development that will be covered in the second season. I won’t say any more here other than to point out that the opening scene in this episode is a near shot-for-shot remake of the climatic point. And it doesn’t end how you would expect!
Unsolicited promotion aside, this episode also introduces Annie’s Military Police comrades to the show for the first time—Hitch, Marlowe, and Guy Who Looks Like the Persona 4 Protagonist. I’m not sure if they will show up in any future episodes—we’re coming up to the end of the season so fast!—but it was nice to see them anyway.
There's also a pretty recent manga reference here |
Who was more honest about their intentions: Jean or Reiner? |
