Young Black Jack First Impressions--I'M JUST FEELING ALIVE

It's the prequel that no one knew they needed until this exact moment.

Random stripping aside, Young Black Jack feels like it captured the best of the original manga by Tezuka, with high-stakes surgeries and themes about morality. I'm also a fan of how it updates some of Tezuka's old designs. There's a lot of new stuff, but it pays its respects to the original.

It also nails the just plain weird side of the series as well, with an upbeat OP overlaid over war scenes:

I'M JUST FEELING ALIVE

The only part that felt a bit awkward was when the show painted the protesters as jerks. How dare they want to be paid a fair wage! They should be like Black Jack and just extort people instead!

But aside from that, I really enjoyed this episode. It's hard to pull off prequel series, but Young Black Jack feels like it will be a lot of fun.
