Winter WonFes 2013 Wrap-Up

Winter Wonder Festival 2013

I'm going to be doing something a little different this month, since two weeks ago the first of the bi-annual figure exposition known as Wonder Festival (WonFes for short) took place in Japan. WonFes is a big deal for companies and collectors alike, since they provide a golden opportunity to show off new figure prototypes and give announcements for upcoming figures! I've covered some of my favorites in the list below, but many more items and pictures can be found on MFC.

Figma Hatsune Miku 2.0

Just like the 300th Nendoroid, the 200th Figma released will be a redone Miku. If you missed out the first time around but still want her, now's your chance.

Figma Kaito

I know that fans of him have been waiting a long time for this! Time to start speculating about accessories.

Hatsune Miku Shinkai Shoujo Scale Figure
Hatsune Miku Shinkai Shoujo (Deep Sea Girl)

A 1/1 scale design based off the song was displayed at an aquarium for a Miku concert last year, which probably inspired the creation of this beautiful figure!

Nendoroid Tsunemori Akane
Nendoroid Tsunemori Akane

Psycho-Pass is so not-moe that nearly all of its merchandise features deformed characters. Take that, anime industry!

Nendoroid Sasami-san

I'm on the fence about the show, but I can't deny that Nendoroid pajama Sasami is really cute...

Nendoroid Kotoura-san
Nendoroid Kotoura-San

I asked, and GSC answered. She looks a little plain right now without color, but I'm more interested in what alternative faces they've picked out for her.

Figma Killua

Officially revealed at WonFes, Killua is set to be released around the same time as the Figma version of Gon, and is up for preorder right now.

Figma Marth
Figma "Marth"

Keep in mind that this is not the Marth of Brawl fame, but the "Marth" from Fire Emblem: Awakening, which recently got its US release. To say anything more would be a spoiler...

Madoka Yukata Ver. Scale Figure
Madoka Yukata Ver.

Is it bad that I want to bash the Kyubey bag against a wall? Anyway, the other girls are slated to get their own Yukata versions as well.

Nendoroid Petit Rachel Alucard

It's likely that she'll be packed with the next BlazBlue game release as an exclusive. But as a fan, I still want her...

Nendoroid Kai Toshiki
Nendoroid Kai Toshiki

More Cardfight Nendos! I've already got Aichi on preorder, so I'm glad to see that his boyfriend Kai is coming soon! Also, his dragon has guns. How many Nendoroid extras can you say that about?

Figma Avengers
Figma Avengers

I probably should've seen this coming after they released the Iron Man Nendoroid, but this was still a surprise to me. If they also release Loki, I fear that the fangirl screaming will never stop...

Cu-Poche Dark Magician Girl
Cu-Poche Dark Magician Girl

Kotobukiya has started releasing figures in its new Cu-Poche line, which are very similar to Nendoroids but with more articulation points. They have the licenses to Madoka Magica and Idolm@ster, but my favorite so far is Dark Magician Girl. Incidentally, she is already up for pre-order.

Yousei-san Figures
Yousei-San

YES. I NEED ALL OF THESE IMMEDIATELY.

What did you think of this season's WonFes? Any items that I didn't list here that you're excited about? Feel free to share the new ways the figure industry will make you broke in the comments below!

You can find more coverage on WonFes at MFC, on Culture Japan, Mikatan's Blog, or on Twitter under #wf2013w. The majority of the figure announcements have been posted here, while other companies have shared their lineups on their official websites/blogs (like here on Alter's official blog). Have fun browsing, and remember to save enough money to eat.
