I've been waiting for this episode for a long time.

It's been a while since the show brought up Kaname's crush on the older girl next door, and while the results were predictable, they were poignant nevertheless. Once again, Kimi to Boku proves that relatable romantic scenarios are what it does best. Kaname's situation can be easily applied to anyone's life; most people have had an experience with "the one that got away."

However, there's a bit more to it than that. Aside from being upset that the girl that he's liked for most of his life is getting married, which is a difficult emotional situation in and of itself (I'm assuming that she was the replacement after his crush on his preschool teacher didn't work out), he also has to come to terms with the fact that he did nothing to prevent this from happening. He never made his feelings known. He didn't confess to her, he didn't try to ask her out. Whatever may have happened, now he'll never know.

It's a good lesson for him, or anyone really, to learn. He got comfortable with the status quo, content to let his crush continue the way it was. But life isn't static, and now he has to mourn the loss of what never was. Even though her sister gave him a big opportunity, he already knew that it wouldn't make a difference. I'm pretty sure that she was aware of his feelings (those expressions she was making throughout the episode didn't come out of nowhere), but she'd made her choice.

As usual though, this episode isn't all about the sadness of unrequited love. It wasn't meant to be, and maybe next time he won't wait and assume. The prospects for the younger sister seemed pretty good at the end of this episode, and I've been shipping them for a while now. Her comment about growing out her bangs after that earlier conversation about looking more mature said a lot, as well as the fact that she saw right through Kaname for the majority of the episode. One door closes...

Current tally: Eight (8) Episode(s) without Shun in drag, three (3) consecutive (current record five [5]), one (1) where he does not appear at all.
