It wasn't the most promising start, but I'm willing to give it a chance.
So apparently this show is what you get when you combine the plot from Fushigi Yuugi with the ability to see spirits from Natsume and then throw in some Pokemon for good measure. Basically, the story isn't very original and since this is Deen the presentation leaves a lot to be desired. The animation was pretty bad at points, and the CGI just looked silly. It would've been better if the "drowned gods" had been animated the usual way, since bad CGI never comes off as threatening. Additionally, it felt like the plot explanation was glossed over in order to get to the generic stuff faster. "Want to know more details about the Tamayorihime and that ominous-sounding thing that she's supposed to seal? Too bad, we're going to school to introduce the harem!" Since I haven't played the game, for all I know they've probably already changed a bunch of stuff for this adaptation. To be honest through, I wasn't expecting much going into this since it's Deen so none of this was particularly surprising. My thought process throughout this episode was something like, "Well, they obviously messed that up. Good thing I'm only really interested in the supernatural backdrop." I will keep watching in the hope that the supernatural element is addressed in an interesting way--not just as an excuse for a harem--since I do have big weakness for that kind of thing. As for everything else, it's hard to say after only one episode (and a preview episode at that). I'll give it a couple of episodes to improve. At least that fox spirit pet is pretty cute.
