I honestly have no idea what to make of this.
The storytelling was all over the place. First we've got a girl crying over her friend's grave, then we're in the past with idols who fight aliens by singing (complete with still images as their attack names are flashed across the screen, making me feel like I was watching old school Batman), then we're back to the present, but apparently not to the point where the blond character dies when she's attacked by aliens again, picks up a little girl to rescue off-screen, and then goes berserk as she unleashes her hidden mahou shoujo powers. Credits roll. This episode felt like a much more confusing Evangelion, only instead of giant robots and random Christian symbolism, there was J-pop and Norse mythology references, along with other random German. I also don't know what the schoolgirl angle is supposed to accomplish other than that it's in every anime ever. This episode would've been fine (and a lot more coherent) if it had just stuck with the two idols and explained the situation a bit more. To it's credit though, the animation was pretty good and the songs aren't bad either...too bad my brain couldn't get past the whole "they're fighting aliens with J-POP" thing. I'm giving this show the three episode test to see if it decides to make any sense, but if it continues to be this confusing, I'll probably drop it.
