Mikuni's success in stopping "C" leads to nothing as America bats it back to Japan like it was a fly. A final plan to stop Mikuni and save at least part of the future is put into action as the show sets itself up for the final battle.
It's a good thing that this show is almost over, since it's getting increasingly ridiculous. I've been willing to accept the things that the show has done up until this point because it was clear that there was a point to all of it. However, this episode has killed the expectations that I had of the story. After spending the entire season setting up how strong Mikuni is, how no one can beat him, how he basically owns the Financial District and can control the rotary press with his Cthulhu credit card, the show tears it all down in one episode.
Destroying Japan's economy, all from his crepe van.
And I'm not talking about the mega-inflation, because that made sense from what the show had set up until this point. I'm talking about what happened at the very end of this episode. The point of the episode was to get the Darkness card away from Mikuni. Jennifer basically dies to achieve this end. And then what happens? Kimimaro magically has one for no apparent reason other than "upstairs" says so. Why couldn't the final battle be over the card? It made perfect sense! Everything was set up perfectly for that! But no. The story had to do something crazy just for the sake of being crazy. If the show is willing to pull random moves this late in the game, then I am giving up on the plot. There was more than enough buildup and character motivation to drive these last two episodes. Randomly giving Kimimaro the Darkness card was unnecessary.
The only thing that the show has left is the final boss battle vs. Mikuni, and hopefully it will be awesome because that's all that I'm looking forward to at this point. Everything else...? There will probably be more bad animation for a happy "everything is resolved" ending. But as mad as I am at this episode, [C] still has one more episode to redeem itself. I will be happy to eat my words if the final episode somehow explains everything and wraps things up in a satisfactory way. But I'm not holding my breath.
At the very least, this episode had some good fight scenes.
